I’ve been wondering for years on how I could get a copy of “Love in the Land of Rubber Shoes and Dirty Ice Cream” by Orange and Lemons. It seems that the album is only available in selected music stores in Manila. Does anybody want to send me a copy? I’d pay the freight charge too. Pero kung libre OK LANG. Just kidding.
The album includes the track “Just Like a Splendid Love Song” which is really a splendid song. Another new track I’ve heard which also came from the same album is “Kailangan Kita.”
“Kay sarap pa naman ng gising ko
Kay ganda pa naman ng timpla ko
Heto ka dumarating, namamaalam
Hindi ko alam ang sasabihin o gagawin
Sa loob-loob ko lang…
Kailangan kita.”
The Bloomfields is a groovy band of five members. They started playing together during their high school days at La Salle Greenhills. They played a variety of genres from punk music to alternative. But these guys are now famous for playing old stuff or “daddy music.” There’s nothing newfangled about reviving songs of The Beatles, The Cure or even Nirvana. But this group doesn’t fail to give a new vibration to songs like “Wouldn’t it be nice” and “Never Let Her Slip Away.”
“Ale” by The Bloomfields sounds like another comic song about infatuation. I couldn’t even say it’s a love song.
They may not be the reigning boy band of the country but they could be the reigning retro slash revival group today.
Welcome toPlanetjazz.org. This website has been online since 2004. It was primarily made to support Filipino-American artist, Jasmine Trias. Significantly, the site became a forum for Filipinos and people in various parts of the world who shared the same interest - music, particularly their thoughts and opinions on the show “American Idol.”
For about two years this site has been on hybernation mode. But good news is, the idea of transforming the site into network of blog sites about Filipino artist is slowly turning into a reality. Although the development of this site would be halted for a while, there’ll be some updates on what’s going on in the Philippine Music Industry as well as news and video posts about Filipino musicians abroad. It’s great to hear that there are a lot of young and talented Filipinos who are doing well in the international scene. Hopefully, this would be a great portal to share their music.
